The web has given an unprecedented amount of information at our fingertips. Anyway can now say whatever they want. I am not so sure I even like blogging, but here I am. Here are some dangers:

1. The Self Proclaimed Experts

Our ideas make up who we believe. In previous generations, the only people who could blog are those who earned the right to do this. Now, you do not need anything but a computer. You can comment and argue over the internet. Many blogs are nothing more than a freeverse diary. Publishing before forced authors to think through what they were going to say. Now, you can wake up a say whatever is on your mind.

2. Lack of Accountability

Who holds the bloggers accountable? Most blogs are written by angry Christian people - mostly younger guys who can't believe that not everyone agrees with them. Their arguments are harsh. Who are the people who should confront them? I know of a professor who stays away from blogs because he knows he will say things he will regret. Bloggers however have had no problem ripping his books and arguments on their daily blogs. Blogs are dangerous because accountibility is hard to come by.

3. The Youthfulness

Most bloggers are younger - the older generation has not caught on (or is just catching on). There is nothing wrong with being young, but being young has it's downfalls. We think we know more that we really do. Our wisdom has yet to be cultivated. Our mentors are still working to smooth out our edges. And yet, blogging gives us the ability to write more than Matthew, Luke, Mark and John recorded Jesus said. There are no editors or endorsements. We can say whatever we want and gain our following.

Of course, there are many advantages to blogging, but that is for another day.

Pastor Darren
